Fun Home by Alison Bechdel is a graphic novel that discusses Bechdel’s early life. Bechdel talks about her relationship with her father and her realization that she is a lesbian. The book has numerous allusions to other works of literature, and the flow of the book is determined by many patterns. I looked at the book as a whole in order to identify some of these patterns.
I found one of these patterns essential to the book, and I mapped it in the graphic map above. The specific pattern I decided to map is the thoughts and feelings of Bechdel towards her father. In the pages of this site, I am going to discuss how I went about mapping these thoughts and feelings and the elements I found from viewing the map.
